Mercurio Hero In NZ Win

Mercurio was the hero for New Zealand when he won the game for them over host nation Indonesia. Mercurio was in great form all match scoring 23 points (11-14) from the field and collecting 18 rebounds. But he saved his best for the last 3 seconds of the game where he fought hard for an offensive rebound and forced up a shot that was on it way to the bucket before the opponents touched the ball, causing a goal tending call that turned a 1 point loss into a 1 point win for New Zealand.

After the goal tending call the crowds wend into a frenzy of boo’s and chant directed at the referee.

The win assures New Zealand a place in the next round where they will be put in a poll of 6. Since the wins don’t carry over there is not much ridding on the next two games for New Zealand but SammyD thinks otherwise.

“There is plenty ridding on these games, we want to be in our best form come the next round and keep building the momentum that we already have.”

New Zealand play Singapore next week then Pakistan.

Searles had a nightmare! Missed those 2 free throws and then fouled the shooter! Good win though!
