Hey everyone!

Today was the first official game of the season for our U21 squad! We went up against India and managed to take the win (81876), thanks to a great performance from our backcourt, and probably a slightly questionable offensive choice from our opponent.

The victory was far from guaranteed. Over the past few days, I’ve been reviewing the young prospects and started reaching out to the managers involved (huge thanks to my staff for the help, it really takes a load off my shoulders).

Unfortunately, this generation isn’t the strongest, by far. I suspect my predecessor didn’t really keep up with scouting or player tracking, and it clearly shows in the current roster. This season’s team has quite lots of weaknesses.
Still, we’re working very hard with the younger guys. More and more players are now on solid training paths, especially the 18 and 19 year-olds.

This season, it’s hard to set clear goals. Even with this first victory, qualifying for the second round seems pretty unlikely. But we’ll do everything we can to make it happen, even if it’s through the back door! I’ll keep emphasizing training and player game shape management, those are the two key areas for staying competitive.

Next week, we’ll be facing Japan. By Friday, depending on the players’ game shape and progress, we’ll decide how to approach that game.

Lastly, there’s a Discord server dedicated to Malaysia BuzzerBeater. I use it to communicate with my assistants, and there’s now a section specifically for discussing about the Malaysian national teams. We can also chat about anything else related to BuzzerBeater (or not !). It’s a really convenient way to stay in touch. Yesterday was the 2nd game of our U21 campaign against Japan!
And once again, our young guns brought home the win. (81877) Even better, it was against one of our direct rivals for qualification to the next round !

We deliberately let them win the rebounding battle (we knew they were way stronger in that area anyway) and focused on other aspects where we could make a real impact despite our fragile roster. And it paid off ! This great win puts us one step closer to the second round, even if there’s still a lot left to do, of course.

The players are improving nicely, and I’ve got some great feedback on their training plans. Still, we’ll have to rely on our key guys staying in good game shape since we don’t have much bench depth.

Next Monday we’ll face U.A.E., and we’ll be chasing a third straight win, which would be a huge step toward qualification ! But we’ll need to prepare that game very seriously.
