So all this above information I looked up from the HGL Team Stats-posts (link in previous post) - and you could do the same if you want to see how your team fares against next opponent of yours. :)

Shhhh, Wagner...

...don't help them scout their games XD

That would be one way to go (to not write based on stats, or not to publish them in the first place even if they'd be available), but I wanted to showcase with couple of games that you can pretty easily get the idea of how one can try to find advantage against another team. While HGL is a good spirited league and we have respect towards each other, many of us are also competitive in spirit, so finding your opponents' weaknesses could be just what you need to get those all-important wins to secure a place in Playoffs, or win your closest opponent.. :)

One could say that anyone could do the work and find out/calculate these statistics themselves, but knowing how much effort it takes just take my word for it, that - nobody, I mean nobody - of us would calculate all those stats (or not even nearly all of those stats) themselves... :D

And I can safely say, that not everybody will inspect these stats with great care, so for managers like you I believe team stats will actually create/give more leverage to win in a given situation that you're in, as I believe you do check them out quite carefully (while all your opponents possibly do not).

For me it's also interesting in that sense, because I feel like I learn to know teams better and better all the time, slowly but still. Now I remember that you and for instance KKS are great in rebounding, that BCR takes very good care of the ball, and earlier I learnt that HB has great AST/TO ratio, and that KKS likes to play the slowest tempo in HGL, etc... For me this creates certain kind of "profile" and reflects the spirit of a given team. A profile that'll of course change eventually, but in many instances for example managers' defensive or offensive focus will remain in long term, and is reflected on what kind of players they like to develop/train... :)

EDIT: maybe, possibly, now that I have thought about it, you or LennuK. could have possibly/theoretically taken on team stats-project like this (because you both have used a lots of time for certain things in BB, and also in HGL). But still original comment remains valid in a sense that the work is done (and it's results revealed) in an attempt to benefit everybody (and to create HGL even more interesting), also those who don't have that much time or energy or skills to calculate all stats and by using them to analyze their own team and their opponents themselves.

Yes, we can certainly spend plenty of time and effort on examining the stats...if we choose to...and we can definitely begin to isolate important information which will allow us to set better tactics and/or know our HGL opponents better...however, we should also keep in mind that we are all (or most of us) still training and what we know about teams now will likely change in the future...maybe...

I suppose the quoted text above only was your response, even though it seemed in an above post of yours to blend to be part of my message.

Yes - well, if these HGL team stats can be kept available in a continuous basis, then in that case nobody needs to choose plenty of time to extract this information from match data, but they can just simply utilize it by checking out 3 different team stats-posts.

Yes, change is always inevitable. Just like in real life. But it doesn't prevent us from getting "a feel" of team in a real world, even if we acknowledge team will not probably be the same 10 seasons down the road. Same goes to HGL teams. That, on the other hand, doesn't lessen the value of statistics.

But that's another beauty of statistics - it gives you concrete means to compare something that's the reality today, and what has been the reality in the past (and then you can easily see the change/development). So in that sense it also can give us information on which direction which coach has decided to take their team (through training and/or trades) in a stretch of several seasons...

RS Round 10:
Friday, February 20th, 2026
BC Eos | 148 - 122 | Homegrown Kings

MrJ and I had a nice shooting match this afternoon, where with the 4+1 box defense they were able to completely neutralize E.Karu, who has showed some good performances so far this season. So, I needed the other players to step up and they did, with M.Vanda and Ü.Paabo putting on a two-man-show and combining for 86 points. I was also pleased to see that I was able to keep HGK, who have showed some marvelous rebounding in the last games, below my own rebounding values this game. Good game, MrJ, and good luck with the rest of the season!

Close defeat, but I've been behinf all through the game (up to 10+ pts).
I tried to manage his very good SF by placing my best Inside/Outside defender on him.
result : he made his best game of the season, his best rating !

My team lacks defense now, and the near future should see a bug change in the training -> Ouside Defense then Inside defense, for at least 1 season.

League tables updated after 10 Rounds of play.
Only 7 to go, it's again going so fast - we're already past the halfway mark!

It only means the games are going to get more intense, as there's even more at stake when couple of close games can really turn around the season, for better or for worse.

Thanks again for match reports demars and LennuK. (and MrJ, beforehand, as I might expect you will publish that too), they are always pleasure to read.

And everybody else, please don't hesitate post about your match reports, if you feel like it at all - style is free so you definitely don't have to "analyze" your game to write about it.

It's totally free and voluntary (except you have to publish scores and match links in your own box score post in certain way, but you all already know that..) of course, and like mentioned, you may naturally choose whatever angle that you want to write from.

So I hope everyone would participate to some extent at least at some point. Give it a go, and you might actually like it so much that it becomes a habit. Again, you're naturally free to choose to not participate in this general discussion (about "non-essential HGL matters", but I'd like to welcome everyone to participate in conversations here on this Scores Thread, and also on other Official HGL Thread. :)
