Season 5, RS Round 4:
Friday, May 15th, 2026
Wagner College vs. Vilniaus „Vilkai“ 94-120
(138830059)

0W-4L it is indeed for me, after 4 RS Rounds. This also creates a situation with both Finnish teams (myself and ALA) are two last teams in HGL league table, with total record of 0 wins and 8 losses, and total score aggregate being -215 points (average loss, both teams' records combined is -26,9 points). Surely, the way is only up from here.

In my match vs. VIV Both chose an outside offense and defense in this match. What was the difference then, as this wasn't a close fight at all? Level of execution. VIV shot beyond the arc at 48,3%, while I managed only 18,5%. Even having a 12 rebound edge over VIV was nothing to celebrate, as the gap was already 32 points before the 4th quarter, and Lucky Fans were already requesting to get on the court (as there was no excitement left anymore - they were denied though).
My player A. Haanpää, who were at proficient (9) game shape, decided to take a role - yes, 10 assists were nice contribution, but coaches calls from the sidelines on not to shoot the ball but pass it were not effective enough; he ended up at 3 out of 25 FG, and that kind of performances are the last 10 or so nails (given that I'd expect, say, around 13/25 performance from him instead of 3 of 25) to the coffin for me, in terms of being able to even challenge VIV properly.
Next one is going to be interesting one tomorrow, as I'll face my Swedish "local competitor", HB. Probably only few (other than managers of ALA, HG, and likely also BCR and EOS) understand/know this, but there's always something special about these Finland vs. Sweden-matches... :)

What about the Really Very Old Award? Or the, I-Just-Did-My-hip...Again-Award? I am absolutely joking of course! Sadly, it won't be long before that is my age group! lol

Seriously though, it would be fun to have fun award for the older players...only, I don't want to be the one sifting through player lists to determine how old each player is!

Still considering the best name for the reward - don't worry though, maybe I should also become "The Senior Expert" of HGL, so that you wouldn't have to go through all the listings how old each player is. It seems to me that I have many of the oldest players anyway, so it'd be just natural :D

You may set up the Lineup from the page "Manage My Team", and then edit lineup of your next game.

Very good victory over Alanurmon, + 49 at the end.
The gap between the two teams does not show something very "secret" IMHO, but a win is a win :)
We are 4-1, my "young" players" seem to take their responsabilities, my Center is not a top one, but he makes a great job as a rebounder AND for passing.

My old players (2 of 37 yo) play very well as subs but next season they'll have to play only subs...

If you are missing a team in the HGL next season, I am available. Although there are probably more than enough of you in the HGL.....

@all current HGL managers, important:
please inform me by Regular Season Round 13 (June 8th) that are you willing/committed continuing in HGL next Season as well (Season 6).

This leaves us time to possibly run a HGL-Promotion league (or HGL-PL, or something like that) to determine the order of teams interested in joining HGL for the next Season, which would be possibly done in the case there are teams that decide to leave HGL after this Season voluntarily.

@Hadár: It's good to hear from you! Like you've probably noticed (likely you have been reading these threads to some extent at least), it is more or less likely that 18 will remain the maximum limit of participating teams at least for now. Like you've noticed, it hasn't been absolutely locked, but not many aspects speak for further expansion - least of them the added work (and added Rounds) that adding 2 teams would produce. However, as I mentioned, you're very strong candidate to win HGL-PL, should there be for instance 1 current HGL team exiting voluntarily after this Season.

As you've also probably noticed our discussion on possible relegation possibility in the future, it would be too quick decision to apply that in a middle of the Season. So if it is decided that we'll begin using that promotion/relegation system (in where likely only worst, or possibly two worst HGL team(s) would be subjected to relegation threat by forcing to take HGL-RPF, HGL Relegation/Promotion Final match, against best team of HGL-PL), we would only subject teams to that threat starting from Season 6 at the earliest, meaning that you could promote via HGL-PL only at the beginning of Season 7 unless teams would withdraw voluntarily from HGL, in which case teams would be offered place to HGL based on their position in HGL Promotion League (that is naturally played during current Season, as teams are fighting for places in HGL for next Season).

So it is likely best to make decision first on whether we're going to subject HGL teams to relegation threat based on Season 6 success, and then after that possibly invite all interested teams (interested in participating to HGL Season 6) to play in HGL-PL (which format is still undecided - either Round Robin, Playoffs, or combination), just in case 1 or more teams would decide to withdraw from HGL after this Season 5 voluntarily.
The downside? Result on Season 5 HGL-PL (which still haven't been decided if that'll even exist, but like I mentioned, it might be good/okay idea to have it anyway) might not mean anything, before the very last minute (before pre-season), because sometimes there have been teams that leave HGL with very short notice (and then if we know the "correct" order of the teams, we can offer them place in HGL next Season if we have "a ranking" that we've got from playing HGL-PL.

However, the rule on HGL match times haven't changed, so every Season that starts when DST is observed in Europe, is played 15.30 EET DST, and when DST is not observed at the start of HGL Season, game time is 14.30 EET Normal Time (winter time), like stated in the rules.
