Hey, right up that alley, I'm trying to reduce my salary, so I retired my 21-year old player Martin Murumaa (54781225). He used to be in the top-8 of my salaries in season 3, should I calculate a new top-8 salary for season 3? The difference would be approx. -2K$.
I'm also still waiting for the first financial update to be sure, what the weekly income will be, it might be that I will remove some further players from the roster at the beginning of the season.

Thank you for letting me know, and can you please keep me updated on further changes on your roster should they occur.

If it's easy for you to do that, then you can do it (but it hasn't so far been made mandatory for anyone to do that themselves). I just suspect it could take some work now that player salaries have been updated to reflect Season 71 levels, especially if some players have moved in/out of that top8-salary envelope(?)...

So what I'm trying to say here, that I couldn't demand that from you as it's not demanded of others either, but of course I appreciate all such efforts of thoroughness. However, I guess we all have somewhat limited time to use for BB and therefore for HGL as well, so you need to evaluate whether or not your time would be better used (instead of calculating if it´s like -2 or -3K difference, if that's about the range what you can already say with confidence without further calculations) when possibly calculating Season 4 top8-salaries and their ages (should you want to undertake this project also for Season 4?).

@all:
Season 4 is starting very soon, and only 8 out of 18 managers have Good to go-status on a pre-season progress following post, here: (329501.16).

So if you are not GTG in that list, please correct your box score post immediately. I think all managers have been contacted, who had and still have problems with their box score posts, but if you haven't been contacted and are not GTG on that list, there's probably a reason for it so check out your box score post in that case.

I released a Season 4 schedule filled with match links, on Scores thread.

If someone wants to double-check that all the links are correct, I'd appreciate it.

I guess we could just skip this minor change, as for the new season's calculations, we will use the data from the beginning of the season anyway. I will do my best to provide the latest stats for season 4 on next Monday, when we have our first gameday.

Yes, there is plenty of calculations to be made on Season 4, so maybe it's good to forward your time and energy towards that. And as this process that you were willing to take care of is totally voluntary, please don't take too much pressure of it being ready exactly on Monday - in every case, whether or not it will be ready on Monday - your help is much appreciated.

Some people might not come to think of it, but I'm perfectly aware how much work there can be to compile such (or other kinds of) statistics, so if it has to be postponed by, say, 1 or 2 weeks, due to you simply not having time for it, we can definitely live with that.

Speaking of help, has anyone checked out every single match in schedule, that are all details correct (correct teams facing each other at correct days and times, 02.30PM EET)?
I still "only" added match links in those RS schedule posts, and tried to be as precise as possible, but didn't have time to run a double-check to those 2 finished posts.

@demars: please accept ned's (FRE) challenge as long as it's details are correct, because that match has not been organized at correct time at all, as far as I know. (Also other corrections to your box score post are needed, of which I've contacted you so please make those as well).

@
Moneta and
Paul George:

Corrections still need to be made to your box score posts; please proceed with correcting them as soon as possible, because Season 4 begins in about 1 day.

EDIT on January 26th at 2PM EET: all corrections have been made.

To quote myself, as nobody has answered to this. Has anyone checked all, or some of the matches to verify everything is correct?

Would someone be interested in writing some sort of HGL Season 4 preview on Official Thread?

The form can be chosen by you, so it could be almost anything you choose.
Or on the other hand it could follow "typical" sports preview format with
- mostly written text,
- reports and analysis of how possible recent roster changes have affected S4 outcome,
- expectations/predictions on
A) medal contenders on S4
B) who would be fighting for last Playoff-spots most likely
C) possible surprise-teams when compared to their salary (see Season 3 participating teams-post currently for salaries),
D) how many teams do you consider to be "middle-level teams", fighting for good positions on a good season (without injuries, good tactics etc.), but if games aren't going well for them, could be seeing themselves in a very bad position when Playoffs start
- some statistics (if you have them gathered/you could use some of Hadár's stats published on Scores-tread),
- reports/preview of new-to-HGL teams,
- analysis of success of certain teams (for instance, total Regular Season record in HGL, record during 2 last seasons in RS "2-year record; 2YR", or Season-by-Season RS win-loss records or RS winning-% of certain teams)
- etc.

I still have to finish multiple things, preferably before Season 4 starts, so I don't think I have time to write at least a lengthy preview post.

I'm going to speak about a subject I know the best : ME (My team)

MY TEAM is on a good way to the top, but in a very very slow movement.
MY TEAM loves weird tactics. When I'm nearly sure to lose, I tried some things, especially this Ol'Tactic o' Mine, aka Princeton (I did it yesterday night for the first game of the season (after I climbed up in Div2), and I won nearly easily)
MY TEAM should/could win about 9-11 games, but I think it's becoming harder and harder. On the other hand, when I lose, it's tighter than before...
MY TEAM has 2 Hof/Legend guys in the squad. They should, this season, become go-to-guys since my 2 best men have turned 36 (around 50k of salary).
MY TEAM, at last, thanks to the last season training, no more lose EVERY rebound battle. This is very encouraging :)
MY TEAM drafted a HoF (19 y-o, 54 TC) this season :)

MY TEAM is the most modest team of the whole world, don't forget this.

Good luck to you, you'll need a lot !

Thanks for your Season 4 preview/pre-season report on your part!

It's always good to hear in which part of "construction process" teams are, and what are they looking forward to achieve now/in the near future. (Yes, that's very subjective term for HG teams, as we do have to think in a long run, but you get my point).

Anyone else willing to share their Season 4 preview of the whole HGL or at least certain part of the HGL teams, or perhaps doing what demars did and share a view from their perspective (how you expect your team to compare to others this season, what are your goals, etc.)?

So, I just need to win 1 game in the HGL this season to achieve my goal for Season 4. I believe it is going to happen.
[..]

Anyway, I am excited to be back in the HGL and hopeful of it being our best season yet.

Good luck to you all. B)

Thanks, MrJ for your teams' Season 4 preview!

There's only 3 hours until the start of Season 4, and "Pre-season progress"-post has been updated, here: (329501.16).
@Paul George: it is necessary for you to finish your box score post before first match of Season 4 starts.
Remember, that I should also be allowed enough time to check those posts before Season starts.

To avoid such situations with box score posts in future, we could consider
A) Starting pre-season process earlier (which I've tried to avoid) and/or
B) Apply some penalty, should box score post not be complete before some certain deadline (which I've also tried to avoid).

We could (and might), of course, continue the way we have done so far (correction requests from Commissioner, and no penalties whatsoever applied), but it's a process that I wish would be completed more quickly and in more careful/thorough fashion.

Also, this is a process that remains (at least relatively) the same from Season to Season, so when one learns how it works, it should theoretically give them an advantage on being able to finish it well ahead of deadline.

Why I mention about this now? Of course this box score post-situation at hand finally triggered it at the end, but another point is that I wish all these necessary HGL processes would become as "automatic" as possible to all managers, so that when managers would once learn how it's done correctly, then they would know/remember how to do it correctly on further HGL Seasons, and would also run careful checks on their box score posts.

Many managers, on the other hand, have made excellent job on their box score posts, even without 0 "intervention" from me, many from season to season, so this also gives me a clue that this can be done, especially when applying careful and thorough approach/attitude to that process.
It's the critical few(/some) percentages of the incorrect box score entries, that requires a thorough check of all box score posts on my part (because I can't trust all entries are correct, if especially several mistakes occur), and that takes lots of time.

There are different situations going on on peoples' life that take toll on hobbies, so I get it that sometimes it's not so easy to allocate time for an online game. But that's why I've said earlier multiple times, that please remember to set reminders, so that things get done in time, and remember to scan your box score post for errors yourself - if you have history of getting multiple correction requests on your box score post(s) during pre-seasons, then it's probably a good idea to run a careful checks even twice.

In an ideal world (or in automated league, which HGL is not) all this work would be done automatically, but now it is done by me, and as I wish to make this a long lived league, I would like to see people taking care of that part of the pre-season process with careful and thorough attitude. Please remember, that Pickup match organizing and creating correct box score post for your team are one of the only processes/demands that require work from "regular" manager, so it's probably a good idea to treat it as your most important task of the whole HGL Season.

As for my earlier question (that I repeated 2 times), shall I take 0 responses as a negative answer, as I asked if anyone has took a look at HGL Season 4 schedule's Pickup match links (2 posts), to check whether or not they're all correct?

To end this message with a positive note, I thank you all for co-operation on pre-season match organizing process, and if I won't write further Season 4 preview before it starts, I wish you all good luck for the Season! :)

I think this season might become quite interesting based on some stats that I calculated (will be published by Wagner later). I asked myself, who would be able to put up with Virtus Portici, who have now won back-to-back championships, especially now that Svätý Jur Snakers are not participating in the coming season. While the reigning champions’ top-8 salary decreased by 30K$, they are still the third in the top salary table and have a very balanced distribution of the team. Over the couple of last seasons Rajdersi and KK Stihija were the teams that had rivaled the undisputed top-2 teams of the league, but now it might get even more interesting.

Over the last seasons, we have witnessed a stellar rise in salaries of Lielupes Melnās Sirdis, who still have one of the youngest teams in the league and might be a serious title contender this season. Apart from KK Stihija and Lielupes Melnās Sirdis, who both have a salary of well over 500K $, we have additional 8 teams having salaries between approximately 350-450 K$, who might end up at the higher positions in the table as well, maybe even going for the final, or the championship.

Not only is the race for PO positions going to be an interesting one, we now have teams with similar salary ranges towards the lower end of the salary table as well. Though considering that Freccia Azzurra, Alanurmon Rikkaat and Homegrown Kings are among some of the youngest teams in the league, they have potential to increase their salaries significantly over the coming seasons.

Interesting is also to see that there are teams, whose rosters have gotten somewhat younger compared to the last season. While WiMaOlca’s top 8 got younger by a whole 2 years on average, also Homegrown Kings, Wagner College and Madrid Chotis will face the new season with a younger team than last season. In contrast, some teams have not gotten that boost of fresh blood into their rosters just yet and we have two teams, Hårdboll and Virtus Portici, whose top-8 average age is above 30 years (also dropped top-8 salaries just a little bit).

As of my personal goals for this season: I definitely want to finish the season with more wins that the last two ones (3 wins on both occasions), which should be doable, considering that we now have 2 additional teams in the league. To go beyond, my goal would be to reach at least the second round of play-offs, which might be ambitious, but would be a great achievement. On the side, as I got relegated in the regular BB league, I hope that I can just keep all my players and keep up financially.
