League tables updated after RS Round 10.

Very interesting and partly also dramatic (big comebacks on 4th quarters, big scoring night especially in match between two French sides, etc.!) Round we had, and after this no teams remain undefeated as RAJ was able to beat until then undefeated KKS. KKS on the other hand still has everything in their own hands, but KKS-VIV (both now at 9-1) can prove to be very interesting and even decisive - should both teams (KKS+VIV) plus VPO win all of their other matches that are remaining and it seems that could be decisive match on RS victory - if VIV and VPO are tied, VPO wins; but if VPO and KKS are tied, KKS wins.

Having said that, some teams disagree it would be decisive one. And I've truly enjoyed the surprise elements and even matches this Season, and there are many very high quality teams breathing just behind the teams with only 1 loss currently (KKS, VPO, VIV).
Out of them LMS (8-2) and EOS (7-3) have highest budgets, while RAJ (8-2) and ED (6-4) have proven many times over that they can cause upsets against higher salary foes.
Also LGM's current record of 7W-3L is fantastic given their $271K salary (although it must be admitted that their schedule gets harder at the end - at least 5 of the remaining matches will be challenging in terms of finding a win, but almost anything is certainly possible and they have already proven that they can beat teams that have higher salary than theirs).

Yet another league table update finished after RS Round 12 on Season 5.

Couple of very important matches, which resulted VPO climbing back to first position in league table, as KKS suffered an 8 point loss to EOS in one of the highest level of matches (player salaries) on this whole Regular Season.

RAJ once was able to find win in very important match against VIV, equalizing their W-L record to 10-2 with VIV, and of course now being in front of VIV in any case should these two teams (only) be tied in wins after RS.

HB, with their somewhat clear 16 point win over TRO, almost already made sure Swedish color will be seen in HGL Playoffs this time around, simultaneously meaning likely no Finnish teams will be playing in Playoffs.

This was also made more likely by VPO's win over my team (WAG) - probably my smallest loss to VPO by far until this day, but once again their strong defense and effective enough offense made me look bad on both ends of the floor, keeping me at sub-27% in FG shooting. Only thing to celebrate was a Round high 21 offensive rebounds (and 14 more shot opportunities), but there's still a miles of difference between my team and VPO, and my very, very slim Playoff chances seem to rely on reaching very unlikely wins over opponents like this (or ED, RAJ, and EOS to name a few), so if one calls chances slim, they would be polite I suppose.

As far as Finnish teams technically still having chances to reach S5 Playoffs, MAD's win over ALA, in a second most lopsided win on the Season 5 RS so far, 61 points to be precise (biggest difference of the Season 5 so far is 62 point difference) left ALA in tricky/difficult position in that sense. Of course, it doesn't/didn't help that ALA's second most expensive player is suffering from broken nose. MAD's dominance on steals (14-2) and in blocks (18 to 1) were one of the decisive factors.

BCR and FRE had pretty even fight (9p win for BCR) at the lower end of the league table, and as expected, BCR's strong performance in rebounds (once again) was too much to handle for FRE, whose expertise rebounds were not (at least on Season 4 - I don't have yet any team stats for Season 5 collected).

Anyway, stay tuned, as decisions on either start of voting and/or possible change of "opening" HGL (note: relative term, as it's not "closed" league nowadays either) to new-to-HGL teams through Promotion/Relegation Final will be announced here on main Thread. Please note that if vote would be opened, I find that it's controversial how big portion of managers would
A) need to have casted their vote, and
B) how large of percentage of votes would need to favor change,
in order for change to take a place.

It'd be also possible to make this change ("opening" league through Relegation/Promotion Final) based on Commissioner's Decision, but again I have received only few mixed and partly indecisive opinions on whether voting should take place or not.

@all managers, important, please read:

All current 18 teams have confirmed that they are committed to Season 6 participation.

However, as the demand/discussion has taken place recently in terms of whether or not HGL would be better off "opened" to 1 new team per Season (should they be able to beat worst team in given HGL Season in one match; court balance to be decided), I will now open first ever HGL voting about this possible change.

I'll also send every current HGL manager a short BBMail about this, to ensure coverage and reaction.

In order to vote, please only respond 'Vote A' or 'Vote B' (or A or B); no basis for your decision/opinion are asked nor preferred at this point, only your vote.

I don't vote yet, so please don't be bothered by that, and still vote - I want to see the actual result without trying to "set a preference" by voting first, if you know what I mean. (If there will be plenty of votes, I might not need to vote at all).

I realize it hasn't been determined, how big part of managers would need to vote, and/or how big of a percentage would be needed in order for change to take place "officially", but let's see how this voting goes, and let's all try to give our vote/voice on this voting so that we can see if some kind of clear consensus will be reached (on whether to potentially invite 1 new team per HGL Season or not, if they are able to beat worst team in HGL).

This whole matter has been discussed in lengthy manner, for example starting from this post (331392.53) (below the line of starts), and continuing for at least 10 messages below, until this message: (331392.62).



So as you all probably already know, the voting will be only about the possible change of opening the league to 1 interested, currently non-HGL team per Season.


Please note, that results on this HGL-PL (HGL Promotion/Participation League) could be used also to determine who will get to participate to Season 7, if no new interested teams will announce their interest for Season 7 after this Seasons' HGL-PL has been started.

That means, that teams that would be interested in participating to Season 6 and/or Season 7 should now participate to this HGL-PL, just to be on the safe side.

In other words, it has not yet been 100% decided, whether or not these results of first HGL-PL would be used for determining Season 7 participation, or only to determine in which order teams would be given replacement places from HGL for Season 6 if some currently committed HGL managers would withdraw prior to Season 6.

(It might be preferred to save some trouble and tokens, and use this Season's results, if no new interested teams would announce interest after this HGL-PL has been started).

Note: please only participate if you would be committed to participate to HGL Season 6 and/or 7.

Voting is about whether or not managers think HGL should be "opened" to 1 "currently non-HGL" team per Season through promotion/relegation-scenario starting from Season 6.

In short:
worst team in HGL (ORSR-rankings of RS, Season 6) would be forced to face a best current non-HGL team, which has won the recent HGL Promotion/Participation League (HGL-PL), in a single HGL Relegation/Promotion Final (HGL-RPF) match.
Winner of HGL-RPF plays in HGL next Season, loser does not.

Note: No changes to max. HGL team amounts (now 18) in either scenario.

Vote A= no changes to current system
Vote B= 1 team per Season has chance to get "accepted" to HGL (and worst HGL team faces relegation threat per Season).

Thank you for your vote demars, I will make a note/record of it of course - I hope that's first one of the all 18 votes, and we'll get the voting done in time.

Frankly, demars, I understand you 100%, and you described quite perfectly why this is so problematic scenario to me all in all - even if I don't know any of you guys really well (I hope that will change in the future though - I'm not kidding about HGL meets and such!), I have come to like you guys a lot and very much enjoy being part of this community, and it would be sad to "throw a committed manager out of the league" just because they didn't had very competitive team on that Season.

It's very interesting how much I've also come to like some certain matchups/facing some teams, and continuation is something I've always wanted to cherish and reward in HGL... And also I'd like to reward committed managers, not penalize them.. And while forcing worst team to relegation final match might not be interpreted as penalizing to some, I believe at least you know what I mean.

And on the other hand, it's in a way "a positive problem" having to deal with these, but of course sometimes it feels as one is between the tree and the bark, as it's sometimes impossible to find enough time in order to be able to expand and expand all the time. Not only that quality often times suffers (anyone can confirm that from work life, yes?;), but also it needs to be remembered, that we all (including me) should be able to enjoy this and being able to use "acceptable" amount of time into it (and given consideration to all aspects, including being able to maintain level of the league even if I would have less time to use for BB and therefore for HGL at some point in the future), as we all have IRL things/duties/relationships as well that need to be given time and care.

Also, it's an interesting change, as this is second time in a row when all current managers wanted to continue to further Season, while first 3 Seasons created a lot of open spots (for new teams to enter) in HGL due to teams exiting voluntarily. Who knows how this will develop in future - are we able to keep up with this nice streak, or are teams going to exit HGL voluntarily for one reason or another?

But as I've said, I also always understand both points of the view, and I am thankful that we have interested teams "on the queue" so to speak. There will be HGL-PL (short) league (/playoffs/combination of both; TBD) for them, starting on this Season.

I don't like the NBA sistem who the same teams plays the League every year, competitive or not.
