Reserves not working properly?
Thanks for Atlantic Puffin's update—this makes the question clearer.

your linked answer has nothing to do with it too.
You're right.

When I first started playing BB, the teaching article in my country showed the 48+ tactic as leaving all reserves blank, like this:
PG: A/B/-
SG: C/D/-
SF: E/F/-
PF: G/H/-
C: I/I/-
The actual success rate wasn’t bad, and I never ran into the kind of situation mentioned in this thread.

My personal guess is that reserves may not follow the depth chart as strictly as starters and backups.
Maybe BB originally designed it this way.

Hi all,

I think the problem lies with the way the garbage time subbing code works and I suspect it would not happen if the trainee had been on one of the other positions. This would make training a center harder than other positions, of course. I propose a simple fix: we can turn off garbage time for "follow depth chart" subbing strategy. We will discuss and implement if we decide the change worthwhile.

That would be great in my opinion.
If the user could turn on/off the garbage time option (when selecting follow depth chart), that would be even better! :)

I don't like this simple fix.
If garbage time is turned off for the "follow depth chart" subbing strategy,
the starters would stay on longer instead of being subbed out in garbage time,
which makes the playing time feel more monotonous, with less variation, and in turn affects the management of players' minutes.

Right now, managers also have other more viable 48+ strategies.
Moreover, the manual says "You can use mostly your judgment (Follow Depth Chart)," which means coaches still use their own judgment in certain situations.

I'd rather hope for what BB-Justin mentioned in (324599.6):
maybe the new BB ownership can improve the substitution logic when they rebuild the game engine.

I too have just suffered from this - even worse was that i had 7 players dressed and the game just completely disregarded my lineup instructions. Great! Is this a new thing in the garbage time coding as i have never seen this before and never ever had any issues with training in all these years and then all of a sudden multiple different users start getting it all at once?

I see the manager now subs my trainee back in but he plays at PF.... what is this nonsense? Guess it's back to having to just dress between 3 and 5 players only to guarantee the minutes although it makes it harder to manage minutes for the whole team....

If the game completely disregarded your lineup instructions, you blanked more than 2 starter spots and the lineup was re-done by the coach because of that.

I never use blank lineups except in BBM matches. I have checked my lineup set and it was

A/F/F
B/G/G
C/C/C
D/D/D
E/E/E

Coach instructions were Follows Depth Chart.

The game started moving the backups about switching D and E then G and E so my backup from SG ended up playing 14 minutes at C. At some point my trainee player E was subbed back in to play minutes at PF. I am sure Marin can confirm but this looks like the same garbage time coding issue as the OP.
