Hi there guys, I'm already aware that potential acts as a soft cap on player skill, hence there is a "tighter" diminishing curve for low potential players as opposed to high potential ones, whose curves are likely to appear more linear. But my question is, how do you determine WHEN the soft cap will take effect? I'm pretty new here so I can't estimate when that will happen. I was wondering if the vets here have anything to say about this :)

BTW, as a wild guess, are the color codes of the player's potential indicate when his stats begin to increase at a diminishing rate? e.g. a bench warmer would start experiencing delays in gains when his skills reach mediocre to average?

I have been watching some players hit the soft cap this season. Once they are fully capped, it is pretty obvious. You can go 6-7 weeks of one position training (maybe longer) training one skill without a pop - and that's on a fairly young player (ie: 20-21).

I think that hitting the soft cap is a bit of a gradual process, though, whereby training slows down gradually as you approach the cap. However, once you hit the soft cap, the effect seems really dramatic.

Is age also a factor at slowing down the rates? Are there any occurrences when development begins to slow down by 24 or 26 years of age? I was wondering if there's any sense to train players before they reach their peak.

Age is definitely a factor. Training slows down every extra year that a player ages. I don't know the exact numbers, but unless a guy is already a stud, there is no point in training him once he is 24.

Please use the Help forums - generally there are threads regarding the potential caps there, but another one with a well-reasoned opening post is definitely welcome.
