Ok, so I've been thinking about signing up for Grand Prix Racing Online over the past couple of weeks, as I've always had an interest in racing games and said interest only grown stronger recently. I was planning on signing up over their upcoming off-season break (to get a fresh start from race 1 of a new season), but I have heard a horror story about the game's community being poisonous, and random first lap crashes ruining seven seasons of work for one ex-manager. This makes me very hesitant to sign-up. Because I hate excessive random with a passion, and even quit Trophy Manager and Football Identity because of excessive random...

If anyone on this forum plays or has played GPRO, please tell why I should or should not sign up for this game. I'll be very grateful for any input you may have, as I'd prefer not to sign up to a game just to quit within a few weeks because I simply didn't like it...

EDIT: Got no feedback, so I just took a stab in the dark. If anyone else on this forum is wondering whether this game is worth playing or not, give me nine weeks and I'll let you know :P.

*One season later* (they're pretty short seasons, 9.5 weeks to be exact)

The game is great, aside from the presence of some so called 'randoms' that you can't do much about and can easily ruin a race. It's actually quite complex for an online manager game, you'll see what I mean if you do choose to sign up (as of writing this post it's the off-season so you could join in time for race 1 of the new season if you wanted to now).

The community... not so great. Just rubs me the wrong way, especially the ability to thumb down forum posts which gets soundly abused by the haters, in turn making the community vibe feel very negative.

Still, the forums are very active so if you can put up with the pricks, or don't care about the community, it's a game worth playing.

I'm also a gpro player and I simply love this game :)

Can I request that this thread be renamed to just 'GPRO'? I'd like to make it the general discussion thread for this game if anyone's interested...

I'm in a great battle this season in Rookie 330. I took the lead last race, though I don't like the way I did it because the previous leader got a BS random which allowed me to leapfrog him. My main rivals for the title are a French manager who is amazing in qualifying but struggles to convert at times in the race, and a Greek who is very fast at times but also inconsistent. There's some dark horses in my group too, for example a Hungarian who's always a threat because he doesn't shy away from clear track risks.

I've got a pretty good driver right now who excels in the wet (my first GPRO victory came in the recent mixed-weather race at Mexico City);

I'd be more than willing to give out some tips to anyone interested in signing up for the game. I don't know a great deal but I do have a good grasp on the basics...

Yes. Finished 2nd in my Rookie group last season, and in Amateur I managed a brilliant 4th place finish at my Driver's FT this season so it doesn't look like I'm relegating back to Rookie any time soon...

Thank goodness I am not the only one on BB playing it... so I won't look like staring at the mirror. :D

Done 400+ races, yet the best I did in Ama was 17 points, only twice retained (out of 5) and rest was Rookie, but now I am capable of going up to Pro :)
And yeah, I am also pretty darn known on their forums.

Miscalculated my drivers OA leading into this season so I had to abandon what was going to be a promotion campaign this season in Amateur and hire a new driver that is a fair ways off the pace right now, but does have Elite potential. Will need a full wet weather at some point this season to score points with his current skill set though. The long road to glory has begun for Brian Davison...

I promoted in Pro last season !

I even got the title in Amat :)

Yesterday, I scored my first points ever in Pro with a 5th place !

I am plain slow then :D

Will try to promote next season to Pro, got a new driver and need to build stamina, so yeah. Building season :)
