Pilipinas fell short against the host, Australia, 89-78

Plagued by a poor performance from Kidlat Celebria (0-6 FG, 3 TOs & 6 fouls in 29 minutes), the team's offense was carried by Leorio Lovino (18 pts, 4 ast), Dingdong Fornoles (17 pts, 3 reb) and Royce Cardino (13 pts, 10 reb) against a mighty Australian defense. Pete Libron contributed 6 pts, 13 reb and 5 ast as well.

Pilipinas shot 0 of 16 from the 3pt land while hitting only 39.7% from the field (against Australia's 38.3%). Both teams had a hard time scoring as the game was only 35-42 at the half, in favor of Australia. After the break, Australia decided to widen the margin as they led by as much as 15 before the end of the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th quarter. Pilipinas were able to cut the lead to 2 with 1:10 left on the clock but that will be the closes we can get to the Aussies as we failed to score that point on.

Next game will be against Thailand, our last game in the first round. The tables are pretty much set for the next round, expect tougher opponents as we try to take a spot to reach the semis.

Looking forward to your continuous support. Laban Pilipinas!

Pilipinas scores 41 points in the 4th quarter, routes Prathet Thai, 114-63

No player played more than 30 minutes to route Prathet Thai. Lead by starters Peter Heyrosa (20 pts, 6 reb) and Leorio Lovino (18 pts, 4 asts, 1 stl), team Pilipinas gradually increased their lead through the first 3 quarters.
In the 4th quarter, the bench decide to have a scoring barrage against the Thais, Arby Monegro (14 pts, 2 asts) and Kidlat Celebria (14 pts, 5 reb) led the way with James Mabaquiao almost having a double-double (10 pts, 9 reb).

This game concludes our first round in the Asian Cup Tournament. A new pool against tougher opponents will be set in the next couple of days.

In order for us to continue winning, please help maintain our NT players in great shape.

Thanks to everyone maintaining current NT and training future NT players.

Laban Pilipinas!

4th quarter rally helped Pilipinas edge Japan, 80-79

Pilipinas started the 1st half slow trailing by as much as 12 pts. We were able to cut the lead to 5 at the break. The 3rd was another slow quarter for us not being able to cut Japan's lead. A 25pt-4th quarter led by Arby Monegro (11 4th qtr pts) brought us back late in the game. The team managed to clamp down the Japanese Jordan giving Pilipinas their first lead of the game at the 1:28 mark courtesy of Leorio Lovino. It was a back and forth in the last minute with Japan clanking their chance to win at the buzzer.

Monegro played an efficient game scoring 25 pts and grabbing 7 boards while shooting 10 of 16 from the field. Peter Heyrosa contributed as well with 14 pts (50% FG), 7 rebs and 5 asts. Of the bench, it was Mabaquiao who provided scoring for us, 10 pts, shooting 5 of 6 from the field and 4 reb.

Next week will be against the mighty Chinese Team. Looking forward to having every player in NT to be in great shape against a mighty foe.

2 first half injuries no problem for China, routes Pilipinas 109-88

In a game where we put more effort than the other team, we managed to lead in the 1st quarter, 31-25. The 6-pt lead was quickly dissolved by China in the 2nd quarter and went on to cruise for the easy win.

The team struggled to find rhythm offensively as China matched our offense with their stout defense. Kidlat Celebria led the team with 20 pts and 3 ast while Leorio Lovino continued to struggle shooting the ball but managed to put up 18 pts, 3 ast and 2 reb. Off the bench, it was Prudence Oton who tried to salvage our team back with 12 pts and 2 ast. A 2nd quarter injury to Pete Libron limited him to just 17 mins.

Next week we face Indonesia then Hanguk a week after that.

Kindly keep your players in great shape and thanks to everyone for your continuous support.

Thanks Coach Morwood. Great to see you here.

We make do with whoever is best available each game. Hopefully we can avoid injuries and have better GS later in the tournament.

Cheers!

Pilipinas beat Indonesia, 109-81

The game was pretty much decided after Q1 as the closest Indonesia got was by a point with 2 minutes remaining in Q1. Team Pilipinas gradually increased the gap with the margin ballooning to 32 pts in Q4.

No player played more than 28 minutes. The starters were led by Jeffrey Fresnillo's double-double (16 pts, 12 reb) and 3 ast. Pete Libron also contributed 10 pts, 9 reb and 3 blks while Arby Monegro carried the bench scoring with 21 pts (10 of 13 shooting) in 20 minutes.

With Malaysia defeating China, 79-78, Pilipinas will need to win big against Hanguk next week and against Malaysia in our do-or-die game the week after.

Thank you everyone for all the support.

Hold on tight and keep our guys in great shape. We're in the final stretch of our season.

Laban Pilipinas!

Pilipinas defeat Hanguk, 110-92

A team effort to beat Hanguk by 18 pts. Leorio Lovino (18 pts, 2 rebs, 2 asts, 8/15 FG) and James Mabaquiao (17 pts, 2 rebs, 7/10 FG) led the team's offense while Pete Libron anchored both the team's offense and defense. Even though he shot 0-3 from the field, Libron proved to be a huge impact as he grabbed 16 boards, dished out 7 asts and blocked 3 shots in 25 minutes of playing time. Kidlat Celebria, playing in foul trouble throughout the game, scored 15 pts on 6 of 9 shooting, assisted 4 shots and grabbed 3 rebs. Shout out to Raymund Duraliza as well as he poured in 17 pts in 17 minutes off the bench.

The pool currently stands at a four-way tie with Japan upsetting the Malaysians earlier today with a CT. Next week will be the decider on who moves on to the semifinals. The winners between China versus Japan and Malaysia versus Pilipinas will face off against Australia and the winner between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Please keep our NT players in great shape as we hope to proceed to the semis. Thank you to everyone who supported and are continuously supporting both National Teams.

Good luck to us all. Especially to those competing for the league title and fighting off relegation.

Laban Pilipinas!

Pilipinas beats Malaysia, 85-65. Will proceed to the Semis

With their season on the line, Pilipinas played their hearts out in a tightly contested match up that only got out of hand late in the 3rd quarter. With both teams playing great defense overall, Pilipinas only managed to hit 1 three pointer and shot only 43.3% from the field. Pilipinas managed to outrebound Malaysia, 60-36, while grabbing 18 offensive rebounds compared to Malaysia's 9.

The team was lead by Royce Cardino (16 pts, 16 rebs) and Jeffrey Fresnillo (10 pts, 12 rebs, 2 blks) who both had a double-double. Arby Monegro, while having an off-night from the field, had 16 pts and 5 asts. Peter Heyrosa chipped in 14 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts and 3 stls. Off the bench, Gabriel Hosillos had himself 12 pts and 6 rebs.

Next week, we will be facing the host, Australia. This will be our 2nd match against them with them beating us 89-78 in the first round. With a World Cup berth on the line, Team Pilipinas will try their best to snag the win.

Thank you to everyone keeping our NT players (and those on the fringe of making it) in great shape even this late in the season. Please continue to do so to give us a better chance of beating Australia on Friday.

Again, maraming salamat sa lahat ng patuloy na sumusuporta.

Laban Pilipinas!
