England 76-98 Serbia

Tough game, made even tougher with the loss of Puffitt to injury. Because of the injury I expected Serbia, who had been a very strong LI team, to attack inside and went all out to stop LI. But the Serbia manager smartly switched up and went with motion to counter.

Offensively I looked to exploit their C with Bondi but it wasn’t as effective as I had hoped. He did score 41 points but that was on 47 shots, no free throw attempts though.

It was a loss I was expecting as I thought Serbia were stronger than us. So it was my in my plans for this loss. Hopefully the rest of the plan comes together.

Slovakia next week who already have 2 losses this season. Hopefully we can bounceback and win!

A disappointing narrow loss today

Vote for player of the game here: (https://strawpoll.com/polls/PKglzmE7ayp)

###

Bondi won again last week, taking him to 3/3 for the season. However he isn't in the final three this week so he can't complete the clean sweep for the season.

s58 MVP's:
Shawn Bondi 3 (4 career)

England 80-81 Slovakia

Tough loss to take. I thought our players would have performed a better and maybe underestimated Slovakia a little. I believed we were the better team, despite our weaknesses in game shape and Puffitt's injury, but given we still lost using more effort I was clearly very wrong.

The loss makes our chances of qualifying very slim given that Germany beat Serbia. Our only chance now is for Slovakia to beat Serbia in the last game and for us to win our remaining 3 games with good PD. I will obviously do what I can until the becomes impossible.

We play Germany next week which will be another difficult game for us, but I'm still hopeful for an upset.

England 73-60 Germany

We got the win we needed in this game, but it came at the cost of a CT. Really strong defensively to hold them to only 60 points, especially given how strong their bigs guys are. I went with the 2-3 as they were clearly very strong inside and it paid off. Great job by Wulf and Johnston to clean up the boards after getting the stops.

Offensively our game didn't go as expected as it was our bigs taking all the shots. I had expected a mismatch at SF, but Fawaz struggled to score still. I thought it would have been Bondi and Ingram doing most of the damage but our of nowhere Crombie came off the bench and lit up the 1st quarter. The +/- scores show it was really our bench doing the damage against them which is really promising to see our backups perform so well.

The win keeps us in with an outside chance of qualifiying still, which is all I wanted from the game. We now move on to a much easy game against our neighbours Wales. We're going to need to get a big win to boost our PD, so hopefully we can get it.

England 151-86 Wales

2 home nations going up against each other, both with high scoring mindsets. Given our position of relying on miracles for qualification it felt necessary to do all we could to get as high points difference as possible. FCP with RNG playing a line up of 4 perimeter players and 1 big gave us all the offensive fire power we needed, but the defensive side let us down a little due to the lack of enthusiasm and incorrect GDPs.

Crombie had another strong game with 26 points on 10-13 shooting, along with Fawaz with a great all round game of 25 points (10-16FG), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Forrest also had a strong game off the bench with 14 points, 10 rebound and 4 assists in only 19 minutes.

Qualification for us now is pretty much impossible. The only 2 ways it looks possible are (assuming we beat Ukraine which will be tough) Germany losing to Wales or Slovakia beating Serbia and we manage to get a 52 points difference swing in our favour. I would bet my house on Germany beating Wales, and while Slovakia may beat Serbia I can't imagine we can swing the PD in our favor.
