Pilipinas to the Consolation Tournament

After getting beat by Italia 119-91 a couple of weeks ago, Pilipinas will be going to the Consolation Tournament this season.

We will not be able to gain homecourt advantage for next season's Asia Championship as we won bronze in season 57. The new rule requires the team to be 6 seasons removed from winning a trophy to be eligible for the homecourt advantage. Nonetheless, the team will still try to get as far as possible in this tournament para na rin sa experience ng atin mga players, lalong-lalo na ang mga bago sa team.

With the graduation of Peter Heyrosa and Jeffrey Fresnillo from the National Team, we will be faced with the task of finding replacements for them. For the meantime, we will be rolling with our current player pool and pick players again for our first official game this season after the league game sa sabado, to ensure na walang injured NT player sa start ng ating kampanya.

Oct 24: Away versus Schweiz (rank#59)

Looking forward sa progress ng mga trainees natin na future ng NT natin. May we have a prosperous season 62.

Pilipinas overcomes slow start at home, beat Luxembourg 112-84

Luxembourg played 3-2 zone defense which led to them leading 30-24 after the first quarter. Team effort from Pilipinas in the second quarter helped to take the lead at the break, 51-42. Pilipinas continued their momentum throughout the second half.

Jacinto Estorninos led the scoring with 21pts, 8-15 from the field and 5-9 from 3. While other starters in double figures are Leorio Lovino (11pts, 5asts, 1blk, 4-10 from the field) and Jiffrey Sumalapao (10pts, 6asts, 1stl, 3-10 from the field). Pete Libron and Delfin Orais both had 8pts each. Libron also added 13rebs, 3stls and 4blks.

The bench mob was led by Raymund Duraliza with 18pts (6-14 from the field, 5-5 from the FT line) and Errol Tuliva with 14pts (4-6 from the field, 6-6 from the FT line).

Next week, we will be visiting Bolivia to play our second game of the tournament.

We still have available roster spots in our National Team so I hope to see better game shape next week.

Pilipinas bows out of the consolation tournament, shifts focus to Nippon for next season's Asia Cup

Hindi pa tayo eligible for home court during this consolation tournament kaya naman it was a good time to try and test different lineups while still trying to win games. Unfortunately, natalo tayo on some winnable games natin based sa rankings.

The same problems pa rin ang nag-plague sa atin during this season and the next few more kaya naman we will need to be patient with our trainees habang hinihinog pa natin sila. For the meantime, susubukan pa rin nating maipanalo ang bawat laro sa kung sino ang mga available for that week.

A significant milestone was reached this season. Congratulations to Leorio Lovino and his owner, Alonzo Hood, for breaking the All-Time Scoring Record posted by Andrew Solima (1,716pts) noong season 22, 40 seasons ago. 2nd na rin siya sa All-Time Assist Record natin after passing Ulan Cantara (434asts). He is now trailing Lyndon de la Peña who has 698asts, malayo sa 450asts niya ngayon.

May isang graduating player lang tayo this season, Errol Tuliva has finished his NT duties with a total of 72 caps for the Senior team. May he enjoy his remaining years as a player and his retirement from the national squad.

Next season naman ang 34-year old season ng mga sumusunod: Francis Edaño, Jacinto Estorninos, Leorio Lovino at Lirio Mangada. Most likely their last season donning the NT colors unless mapigilan nila ang sakit na kinakaharap ng mga 34-year old players ng BB: Skill deterioration.

We look forward sa paglipad natin pa-Japan next season for another attempt sa medal finish pati na ang pwesto para sa Season 64 World Cup.
