I would like to respectfully submit a proposal regarding the potential implementation of women’s basketball within the BuzzerBeater platform.

1. Motivation
The primary motivation behind this proposal is to promote greater representation of women’s basketball within the game. Expanding the scope to include female players would reflect the global growth and importance of women’s basketball, while also fostering inclusivity.
Additionally, this initiative could attract new managers who are interested in engaging with a more diverse and representative basketball environment, thereby contributing to the growth of the BuzzerBeater community.

2. Feasibility and Ease of Implementation
From a technical and design perspective, this feature could be implemented in a relatively simple manner. It would involve:
• Adding approximately 10 - 12 new facial and hairstyle variations adapted to female players.
• Incorporating a database of female names.
Managers could then be given the option to choose, via a dedicated button, whether their drafted player is male or female, within a limited time frame, similar to the current appearance customization system already in place.
This approach minimizes development complexity while maximizing user choice and inclusivity.

3. Mid-Term Development Potential
Looking ahead, if a sufficient number of female players are introduced into the game, it would be possible to develop women’s national teams.
This would open the door to additional competitions and strategic depth, further enriching the gameplay experience.

4. Openness to Feedback and Further Development
This proposal is intended as a starting point. Any suggestions, improvements, or alternative perspectives are more than welcome in order to refine and adapt the idea to better suit the game’s vision and community expectations.

Are you suggesting a second Utopia league for W-teams that doesn’t interact with the current player pool?

So in response to your question, I don’t really mind the specific format. Mixed or segregated teams would both be perfectly fine. For a simple implementation, I’d start with mixed teams (or fully female teams playing in mixed or men’s leagues). That way you could reuse the same databases.

In this case, that’s not quite what I meant with the suggestion, although I don’t think it’s a bad option either. Like I told Perpete, any decision in that direction would be welcome, and we could start in whatever way has the least impact on the game from a programming standpoint, right?

Sounds like an interesting and positive proposal, from my POV.
Though, like @Perpete said, it should very much depend on the interest of going through with it and, equally importantly, if it would make sense, in terms of resources to get there (both in developing but also in having players interested in such a move).
Maybe there could be an "intermediate" stage where a 2nd (female) team would be exempt/cheaper for some time (assuming a "new" league), after which it would be like a "normal" 2nd team, in order to promote it in the early stages.

I don't think we’re approaching this the right way. It’s not about discussing whether it’s profitable or not, whether more servers are needed, or whatever.

If an individual or a company decides to open a gaming venue (in the Western World), they have to comply with legal regulations. One of them is non-discrimination against customers based on gender. Their clientele might end up being 99% male, but that’s no excuse for not being required to provide both men’s and women’s restrooms. If they only have men's rooms, they’ll most likely be fined by the relevant authorities.

The same applies to online games. You can't have a game on the market where you can only play in 'male mode.' Most popular games (Fortnite, EA Sports, Hattrick, etc.) understood this simple equation a long time ago.

And what about Buzzerbeater? I hope it doesn’t take too long.

Are you in favor of mixed-teams or gender-segregated leagues?
