I guess this is not the first time this topic has been already discussed.

But it's frustrating to see decent players that are FA and they go out to the market with an extremely high price. The formula may be outdated, as nowadays there's no point setting the price as "higher salary = better player = higher price". I mean, what's the point of giving these players a second chance, if their price is too high and no one is willing to pay that?

I'm aware that lowering the price in general terms, could mess with the market flow and all that stuff. But i would at least take into consideration player's age when calculating his starting price.

Very few people is going to pay more than 300k for a 37 y.o player, no matter how decent and usable he is.

There could be also other modifiers, such as potential. But i would start by the age, as i believe it could make things easier to recycle players.

Since most of the older players have a lower market estimation price, I suppose that could also help in getting/achieving to a "better" adjusted starting price.

I agree. At 37, a player shouldn't even hit the FA market and enjoy a nice retirement.

Well i'm not against really old players if they're good enough. The example above, could be a good enough player for a starter Spanish IV division team, or even backup at III division

I'm glad Vince Carter didn't read you

I am aware of the market flow, as i mentioned it in the OP. That's why i suggested only the age factor. I know that's a double edged razor decision, because managers trying to sell could be negatively affected.

Maybe decrease the starting price when players hit a certain age?

All i know is that we're missing the point of giving another chance to players that could be valuable to a team, if these players are priced too high at their release to the market.

I'm with perpete here. I don't think it much matters what happens to declining players who hit the free agent market.

I'm with Kylar here.
For new/weak teams, an affordable veteran could be very helpful (even indispensable), if it were available.

Maybe, but I'm not sure new teams should be encouraged to spend on players with a short time left, though I agree with you that they do have their uses.

It's a difficult balance, indeed.
You definitely need them to be/remain competitive (in the short term) but not in the long term, of course.
In my division/country, they make a difference but if I promote to D2, I'll be cannon fodder next year (the gap to teams there is huge), so I'm already counting on getting back down, even if I do get up this year
But I do think it would be good, to make such players more "available" to lower league teams.
Also, who knows? Maybe one day the game will allow for veterans to (somehow) be mentors to rookies, that would be neat too (and realistic even)
