I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before, but given the recent news in the NBA about Joel Embiid and his French citizenship, I thought it would be worth bringing up.

I think there should be an option for EVERY PLAYER to switch their “citizenship” once in their career. Maybe this can be done at the beginning of a season, where the manager pays a certain fee (can vary depending on what country they want to switch the player to?) or it can be a standard rate. It would also need to be on available at such a time that it would not disrupt NT games/tournaments, but rather take into effect at the beginning of the NT/U21 NT tournament cycles. Again, this should only be once in a lifetime thing for every player. It would potentially promote better competition on the national ranks, if for example managers decide to give some good players citizenships to the smaller countries.

Do you think this is something that would potentially benefit the game?

I'm pretty sure the opposite would happen: managers of the big countries would buy top potential draftees of smaller countries and immediately switch citizenship to their own country

I agree. I don't see why this would be expected to favour smaller nations.

In my opinion the Utopia dual nationalities already simulates this quite well, providing a larger player base for smaller nations while not allowing any room for shenanigans.

I agree yes, but I wish it would allow you to choose the “smaller country” nationality instead of just randomly assigning.

I don’t think buying the 1 HOF or ATG from a smaller country will do any more damage. My thought process was, as someone who resides in Canada but was born somewhere that is not very represented in Buzzerbeater, I would love to train players of my national country.

Maybe it can be adjusted so that you are only able to choose from a handful of nations you can switch your player citizenship to. I much rather train a draftee with the incentive they can be on a mediocre U21 NT or NT, instead of knowing they definitely won’t make Team Canada or larger nations.

I don;t think it should be a switch, but maybe that some players depending on certain rules or just chance get a 2nd nationality which than should be from mostly smaller countries, while giving the main country priority over the 2nd country in some way. So that the main country won't get hurt but when the main country doesn't want him on the team he can become a player for the smaller country.

Frankly speaking, there is one easy way to go about it.

Usually to gain the nationality of a certain country, you'd need to live in the country for a certain period of time. Using that, nationality change can be given to players who:
- moved to the country at 18-19 years old.
- has been in that country for more than 10 seasons.
- has never played for the U21 or senior NT.

This would somewhat benefit the senior NT of micronations (they'd stand a chance to get a good NT player who wouldn't qualify for their home country and be more competitive), and not at the expense of the bigger countries (since if he has never played for the U21 or senior NT by the time he's 28, it's highly unlikely that he'd be given a chance in the future anyway).
