England 108-66 Czech Republic

We made a strong start to the continental competition with a 42 point win over 55th ranked Czech Republic. It was a first half domination as we held them to only 25 points and taking a 37 point lead in to the break. Both offensively and defensively we were very effective and efficient. We shot 52% FG and 42% 3FG and had a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio. Defensively we restricted Czech Republic to only 25%FG and forced a 0.54 assist/turnover ratio.

Leeds City Ballers Academy trio Bondi, Fawaz and Lyons led the team in scoring combining for 57 points, with Bondi top scoring with 25 points on only 12 shot attempts. All 12 players scored a point and contributed through either assisting, rebounding or steals. A strong team performance.

Game 1 has gone perfectly and now we move on to face 42nd ranked Norway in the next game.

As much as it pains me to vote for a Leeds player I will. Bondi! Life's a beach!

England 114-92 Norway

England juniors made it 2-0 for the season with a convincing win over Norway. Shawn Bondi top scored once again with 26 points as he was aggressive getting to the free throw line, especially in the first half. Art Johnston also had strong game with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Danny Choudhry and Brodie Wulf carried the bench unit as Choudhry scored 18 points on 18 minutes on 7-9 shooting and Wulf had a 13 point, 10 rebound double double.

7 players scored in double figures showing the depth of the squad, while only 1 player failed to score but that was due to injury. Once again we had a good assist/turnover ratio of 3, as we continued to make good offensive plays.

We next play Serbia who will be competing with us for qualification. They are also 2-0 and sit top of the group after 2 games.

England 76-98 Serbia

Tough game, made even tougher with the loss of Puffitt to injury. Because of the injury I expected Serbia, who had been a very strong LI team, to attack inside and went all out to stop LI. But the Serbia manager smartly switched up and went with motion to counter.

Offensively I looked to exploit their C with Bondi but it wasn’t as effective as I had hoped. He did score 41 points but that was on 47 shots, no free throw attempts though.

It was a loss I was expecting as I thought Serbia were stronger than us. So it was my in my plans for this loss. Hopefully the rest of the plan comes together.

Slovakia next week who already have 2 losses this season. Hopefully we can bounceback and win!

A disappointing narrow loss today

Bondi won again last week, taking him to 3/3 for the season. However he isn't in the final three this week so he can't complete the clean sweep for the season.

England 80-81 Slovakia

Tough loss to take. I thought our players would have performed a better and maybe underestimated Slovakia a little. I believed we were the better team, despite our weaknesses in game shape and Puffitt's injury, but given we still lost using more effort I was clearly very wrong.

The loss makes our chances of qualifying very slim given that Germany beat Serbia. Our only chance now is for Slovakia to beat Serbia in the last game and for us to win our remaining 3 games with good PD. I will obviously do what I can until the becomes impossible.

We play Germany next week which will be another difficult game for us, but I'm still hopeful for an upset.

England 73-60 Germany

We got the win we needed in this game, but it came at the cost of a CT. Really strong defensively to hold them to only 60 points, especially given how strong their bigs guys are. I went with the 2-3 as they were clearly very strong inside and it paid off. Great job by Wulf and Johnston to clean up the boards after getting the stops.

Offensively our game didn't go as expected as it was our bigs taking all the shots. I had expected a mismatch at SF, but Fawaz struggled to score still. I thought it would have been Bondi and Ingram doing most of the damage but our of nowhere Crombie came off the bench and lit up the 1st quarter. The +/- scores show it was really our bench doing the damage against them which is really promising to see our backups perform so well.

The win keeps us in with an outside chance of qualifiying still, which is all I wanted from the game. We now move on to a much easy game against our neighbours Wales. We're going to need to get a big win to boost our PD, so hopefully we can get it.
