Press Announcements

Big Cup Win?

Delta 9 soundly defeated an In Your Face team that was resting several of its more talented players. "What are we gonna do? Its a nice win. Our schedule and ... general situation dictated an inclination towards putting our energy into the USA Tournament this week. We knew that our chances of winning at Technical Fouls were slim and none ..."

The bigger questions that Delta 9 fans are pondering pertain to the direction of the team and hopes for advancement to the NBBA. "Well, we're very well positioned in some ways and tremendously lacking in others. 10" Vertical is looking phenomenal, then you've got the World Idea Toys, USA Elite and an alarming number of upstarts that appear highly skilled. Can we beat them?"

Has the franchise peaked? Are they overrated now? "I think so. The danger of Buzzerbeater has always been the Mushroom Effect or 'Hundreth Monkey" scenario: Once the community hits a certain, healthy rate of growth, the number of very high quality teams become overwhelming and the competition becomes super-intense. You've got to be a "Mozart" just to stay afloat ... we keep getting better, but not as fast as some teams out there ...

Valid point about BuzzerBeater (or at least the top of the USA) becoming increasingly difficult to succeed in. I do believe that part of it stems from the fact that we've both gone from III to II.4 (i.e., I.5) in the past couple seasons which is populated almost exclusively by managers who pay attention, do the little things correctly, and have little to no interest in making life easy on their competitors. It's hard to quantify how much the competition level has increased in the past (x) seasons but it certainly doesn't look to be an easy path to the NBBA for any of us.
