Saturday Is Roger Holm Day

Saturday night will mark Roger Holm’s 300th and final league game for the New York Chunks, which will be dedicated to his accomplishment of longevity and productivity. A first round pick by the Chunks after Season 5, Holm was a key player in both championship seasons and has been a fixture in the Chunks’ lineup since the day he was drafted. As a versatile guard, Holm has started about as many games at shooting guard as he has a small forward, earning all star recognition at both positions, first at SG in only his second season, and at SF just two seasons ago.

In 15 seasons, Holm has tallied up more than 3,800 points, 900 assists, 1,300 rebounds, and 260 steals. His career 84% at the free throw line is impressive as he came into the league as a really bad free throw shooter, yet has improved to consistently be among the USA’s best.

No other Chunk has come close to playing 300 league games with the team. Of the Chunks’ other Hall of Famers, James Elmore logged the most games at an even 200 games. Of the Chunks’ current players, Nitinos Dimarelos is the most senior with 204 games. Holm will be remembered as “Mr. Chunk”. But, at 32 years of age, Holm’s value in the market is expected to decline rapidly, which is why the Chunks have found it necessary to move on without him. Holm will now have another chance at a playoff drive for another team and wind down his illustrious career where his skills can be appreciated more than with the Chunks, who have been slowly reshaping over the last few seasons with a bias towards youth. With right team, perhaps Holm still has what it takes to play another 300 league games.
