Press Announcements

Chunks Win Conference Again

Season 9 has certainly been the most challenging for the Chunks in Division III thus far. The season opened with a stunning loss against the Renegades. Ararat FC, a former competitor from Division IV.8, added a second loss before rival Deitys put the Chunks a hole before non-conference play. Great 8 regular season leader Potros Midway then compounded frustrations by giving the Chunks their first home loss since Season 5.

But the Chunks, in second place most of the season, followed up non-conference play with an undefeated final third of the season, capped by a 39-point pounding of The Deitys to pass their nemesis in the final game of the season.

In spite of the challenges, the Chunks still had an average point differential of 19.8 in league games, which was easily the best in the league, even better than Potros Midway, the team with the best record in the league. And though this was the first time in the Chunks three season in Division III that they did not finish with the best league record, the Chunks have win the Big 8 in every season so far. Stressing team play and strong balance, the Chunks have also continued to win without a single player among the top 10 leaders in scoring, rebounding or assists, as has been the case since joining League III.7.

With the playoffs looming, the Chunks are concerned will all potential matchups. All three other playoff teams in the Big 8 have each beaten the Chunks once in the regular season, so no game can be taken lightly. And if the Chunks can manage to run the Big 8 gauntlet for a third straight time, the Chunks have not yet been able to get past the Finals. Not wanting runner-up status yet again, the Chunks are focused on the title. Winning it will certainly be very difficult given the tough competition, but failure to win it would only be a disappointment.
