AZ Goes Up 1-0 in Championship Series!

In a hard fought game, Arizona prevailed 86-67 in front a record crowd at Ajo Als Arena Tuesday night! Whether it was nerves, or just a great Fosse Designs team, the usually balalnced Desert Storm scoring attack was led by a one man wrecking crew in PF Fodor Zekic. He finished with 32 points, a whopping 22 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks.. He was pretty much the only one scoring for Arizona early, and kept the home team in the game.

The rest of team started to gradually wake up as the game progressed, but there was no question who the game MVP was in this one! Surprisingly Arizona opted to start Zvonc at PG, instead of Danila in this one...because they didn't want to burn out Danila with too many minutes for the week. Coach Mahody already said that Danila will absolutely start the games over the weekend, and is optimistic that they will give an even stronger effort with their best guard starting instead of coming off the bench as they try to close out the series.

Zvonc had a solid game in the rare start shooting 50% on 6/12 shooting, but with just 2 assists and 4 turnovers, it was obvious that the Arizona attack was not near as strong with Danila not in the game. In 16 minutes off the bench, Danila had twice as many assists. Players like Somlo and Shoemaker were clearly affected by not having their best playmaker in the game, as offensively those two struggled all game long, and never found a rhythm. SF Shoemaker never did find a quality shot in this game going 1/8, but he led the team with 7 assists and had 3 steals.

Next up is a Saturday game in which Arizona will go on the road for the first time in over 3 weeks. Arizona will be trying to close out the series, and win the Championship...if they stumble in game 2, the teams will head back to Phoenix for a 3rd and final game on Sunday.
