July Update

The Dog River Riverdogs on Tueday night completed an 8-0 sweep of the other conference with a tough 94-77 win over the Great 8 leader and powerhouse Lokomotiv Atlanta. The 'Dogs return Saturday to their own conference, playing the league's leading scoring team, the Unrepentent Gunners, at 118 ppg. Dog River counters with the league's best scoring defense—at 82 ppg—and well balance scoring. Upset by one point on a last-second shot in the 3rd round of the Cup, the Riverdogs after that loss rededicated their efforts to having a good inaugural season in Div III. Owner Pappy ODaniel has continued with his expansion plans—and promises a rollicking welcome for the Gunners with an anticipated sellout of 9000 fans.
Even with their league-best record of 12-1, the 'Dogs were shut out in the All-Star game picks, evidence again of their good team balance. Rookie PF Freddy "The Hammer" Davila expressed his disbelief: "Mad Dog" (SG Michael Frame) and "GC" (C Gianvito Cucija) deserved to make the team. But that snub will just make us play that much harder to show what we've got." Dog River came out of the Lokomotiv Atlanta game with their two leading scorers—Frame and Jose "Nick" Nickerson on the injured list. Frame should only miss a couple games, but Nickerson may very well miss 4 or 5. Nonetheless, PG Tyrell "Fidel" Castro—4th in the nation in 3FG% and yet not an All-Star 3-point shooting selection—vowed that the team will be ready Saturday: "It'll come down to their great shooters against our great defenders. Should be a great game!"
Pappy also wanted to congratulate fellow Federation members DC Dribble Penetrators and Meridian Hill McMornings (both out in 7th round), and quarterfinalists Kievan Cossacks and the Crazy Canadians—Good luck!
