Post-Season 8

A 92-75 loss to Great 8 Conference powerhouse 10th Avenue Vikings closed the curtain on the Riverdogs' second season in the Div II.4 league. The Dogs briefly led as late as mid-third quarter before the Vikings' great inside game took over...
The Riverdogs 13-9 record was a 2-game improvement on last season's 11-11 and their 7-game Cup run—all seven games were on the road—was impressive too. One of the highlights of the season was the selection of Victor 'Luke" Lucena's to the All Star Game and his year-long appearance on the top 100-ranked USA players, ending the season at #54.
With 6 players averaging in double figures in scoring—led by Pavel "Ion" Ionenkov's 14.6 ppg—and 3 rebounders in double figures—topped by Lucena's 14.9 rpg—the Dogs relied on defense and balanced play to make the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. The Dogs were ranked #1 in league rebounding, third in shots blocked and 4th in points allowed as well as #1 in fewest fouls.
The mid-season acquisitions of 6-8 PF Ionenkov, 6-8 PF-C Pierrick "Pete" Da Silva and 6-7 SG Zika "Z" Ilicevic and with the post-season purchase of Canadian U21 team member 6-2 SG Etienne "ET" Loubier, the Riverdogs are hopefully ready to make a nice title run in season 9. The continued outstanding play of 6-9 PF Freddy "The Hammer" Davila and 6-1 SG Michael "Mad Dog" Frame, among others, will be heavily counted upon too as the season progresses. Owner Pappy ODaniel, when pressed, did not sound a very hopeful note as to whether any new draftees might be counted on to help out, but did add that "stranger things have happened..."
