Playoff Time

The Dog River Riverdogs ride an 11-game winning streak entering the league tournament Tuesday, hosting the 4th place Chabet team (10-12). The 19-3 Riverdogs finished the regular season Saturday with a hard fought 92-74 victory over the UE Purple Aces. Closer than the final score appears, the win proved costly as the 'Dogs lost their league scoring champion—and possible MVP favorite—Jose Nickerson (23.2 PPG-63% FG%) to a fourth quarter injury. Coach McCauley sadly noted that it appears that Nickerson will miss the rest of the year, but added that he was confident that the team had the depth to overcome that loss.
Owner Pappy ODaniel expressed his concern and anger about what he termed the excessive rough play in the league. Nickerson was hammered while attempting a dunk and while a foul was called, Pappy felt that a flagrant penalty should have been imposed. But ODaniel likewise expressed his confidence in the 'Dogs as they prepare for the tourney without their wily veteran. New seating in the Dog Kennel has brought capacity to 6500 and even more seats are being added this week. Pappy again wants to thank the devoted fans for their great support and enthusiasm.
