"Old Man" Nickerson Set to Retire

Owner Pappy O'Daniel today announced the upcoming end-of-the-season retirement of Jose "Old Man" Nickerson. Last of the original season-3 Riverdogs, Nickerson was the unanimous—all 32 first-place votes—league MVP in season 4. Averaging nearly an almost unheard of point a minute, 23.2 ppg in 25.4 minutes—and shooting over 62% from the field—Nickerson led the 20-2 Dogs to the playoffs but was unable to compete in them due to a stress fracture in his right foot. Without Nickerson, the Riverdogs lost in the SF to the eventual league champion Unrepentant Gunners.

Pappy went on to add that Nickerson will be retained by the Dogs as an assistant coach, specifically to work with the offensive skills of the inside men. "We're excited about the contributions Jose has made—and will continue to make to our organization," added Pappy. The 36 year-old Nickerson played collegiate basketball at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Thanks for the well wishes! Management says that Nick will retire at the end of the playoffs. Then he'll start working immediately as an assistant coach...
