Early Mid-Season

A return to the friendly environs of the Dog Kennel never came at a better time as the Riverdogs came off a grueling 3-game road trip. With the Dogs losing 2 out of 3, including a Cup loss to the one-time NBBA NY Wahoos and a wild loss to Great 8 conference powerhouse Canyon Lake Warhawks, fans wondered if the team had lost its confidence. "We couldn't wait to get back home," said Michael "Mad Dog" Frame after Saturday's game. "And it showed tonight."
With Tyrell "Fidel" Castro showing the way with 28 points and captain Ray Chad chipping in with 20 points and 19 rebounds, Dog River won their 20th consecutive regular-season league home game (going back to a 95-90 loss to Brazos Woodrats in season 4). The Riverdogs continue to show great balance with 10 players averaging more than 9 ppg and 4 players above 9 rpg. Team leaders at this point include Freddy "The Hammer" Davila at 16.1 ppg and 12.4 rpg, Gianvito Cucija's 69% FG, Chad's 78% FT, and Castro's 5.1 assists per game.
Next up for the Dogs is Tuesday night at Great 8 opponent Cameron Collossus, season 5 Div IV.6 champions. Collossus features the league's leading rebounder Paul Templeton (17.4rpg) and is in 8th place in the Great 8. You can catch the Riverdogs game live at 7PM on radio station KDRR (95.7) with former Providence and ABA star Ernie Degregario doing the play-by-play.
