Nickerson Returns to Dog River

With a long standing ovation, over 15,000 of the Riverdog faithful welcomed past league MVP and fan favorite Jose Nickerson to the sidelines Saturday night—and the Riverdogs responded with a convincing 85-61 win over the Big 8 third-place W&C Ball Club. With the former 6-11 Nickerson making his coaching debut—and standing the entire game—the Riverdogs had a commanding 73-46 rebounding edge and led from the tipoff. "Nick" had promised a more upbeat approach and it seemed like the Riverdogs loved the new approach. Longtime Dog fan Hank "Sleepy" Floyd couldn't contain his enthusiasm: "Wow! The guys really had fun out there tonight. We can't wait for the next game!"

Earlier in the day, the Riverdogs had made one of the promised changes with the sale of Jean-Francois "Doc" Vasseur to a Spanish team. This sale followed close on the heels of the previous day's sale of newcomer Wang "Silver" Lining to a team from Italy. Owner Pappy O'Daniel then disclosed that 6-7 swingman Virgil "Zorro" Csordas had requested that he be allowed to return to Europe. "While we love the play of all these guys, especially Doc" and "Zorro," we want to give them the chance for more playing time. Pappy noted that together with Nickerson, the Dog River management team would be soon disclosing a major Riverdog acquisition.

Nice win, and great Job Coach Nickerson in your debut!! Always smart to bring back a fan favorite, especially when he deserves the job Like Jose does!

Our local team, the Phoenix Suns has had a few fan favorites over the years, but one imparticular stands out.....Dan Majerle. He was booed when the Suns drafted him. The head coach warned the fans they wouldnt be booing him after that day, and sure enough, no more boos and the guy went on to be one of the best Phoenix Suns ever...if not one of the best, certainly one of the favorites. Well, first they brought him back as a commentator, and this past season he became one of the Assistant coaches. After just one season, he already got an interview from the Philadephia 76ers. He probably won't get that job, but already Phoenix Suns fans are dreading the fact that its just a matter of time before he leaves to go be a head coach somewhere else.

Great Job Jose, keep it up!! Go Riverdogs!!!

as always well written... let's hope Nickerson can keep the team motivated with all the changes coming forth from the upper management and have a very successful season...good luck to the Riverdogs
