After a nice road win Tuesday night against Trombe BC, the Riverdogs head back into conference play with an upcoming game Saturday hosting Technical Fouls. Only one game out of second, the sixth-place Dogs continue to try to make up ground in the tough great 8 conference. With their string of eight consecutive playoff berths threatened, owner Pappy O'Daniel has made several mid-season moves to strengthen the Riverdogs.
While the fans of Luca "Zo" Doronzo were not very happy with the sale of the popular Italian C, the Riverdog faithful are very excited about the recent backcourt acquisitions of 6-3 Spaniard Juan Carlos "JC" Cabolo, 6-2 PG Stelios "Papa" Papachristodoudis of Greece and French 6-0 swingman Jean-Francois Vasseur. These three players, all 19, have given the Dogs' backcourt, already solid with veterans Ernie Blanton, Zica "Z" Ilicevic and former U-21 Canadian player Etienne "ET" Loubier, some well-deserved rest.
With the solid frontcourt of American Freddy "The Hammer" Davila, Victor "Luke" Lucena, Virgil Csordas, and former Argentine U-21 player Etias "The Big E" Scalise, the Dog River Riverdogs are poised to make one of their patented last-season charges.
Pappy added that all Riverdogs road games are broadcast live at 7PM on radio station KDRR (95.7) with former Providence and ABA star Ernie Degregario doing the play-by-play. Pappy always marvels how a town the size of Dog River (2000 census: 4987 people ) manages to support the Riverdogs so well...
