Mid-March Update

Heading into Wednesday's All-Star game with a 10-3 record—one game behind league-leading Troypert—The Dog River Riverdogs host the 4-9 Hyannis Ospreys this Saturday night. Led by All-Star selections Jose Nickerson (starting PF) and reserve C Gianvito Cucija, the 'Dogs average a conference best 107.7 ppg while holding their foes to the lowest ppg—85.1. A balanced attack continues to power Dog River. Along with league-leading scorer Nickerson at 25.2 ppg, the 'Dogs have 9 other players between 6.5 and 14.7 ppg.
Owner Pappy ODaniel (without the apostrophe) was quite pleased with the team's 6-game CUP showing. The Riverdogs defeated three Div III teams, including the Kangaroo Kicks who had a perfect 22-0 record in their Div IV league last season. The string ended last week as the team lost to Div III power WSU Cougies. After falling behind early, Dog River managed to tie the game at 82 in the 3rd quarter, but the Cougies pulled away at the end.
Newcomer PG Joaquim Perejoan, obtained from a unpronounceable Romanian Div II team, arrived in time for last Saturday's game and played an instrumental role in the 115-70 win with 11 assists. 6-9 PF Constantino Avalos, averaging 10.5 ppg and playing the best basketball of his career, was injured March 8th and is not expected to return for another 1-2 weeks.
