Season 14 Wrap-Up

In a Riverdog press conference this morning, Owner Pappy O'Daniel wanted to pass along his wishes of "Happy New Year" to all the Dog River fans and supporters. Highlights of the conference this morning:

—With a gutsy road game win on Christmas evening against the always tough DC Dribble Penetrators, the Riverdogs qualified for their 12th consecutive playoff berth, this year with a 13-9 record.
—The Riverdogs wrapped up their year Tuesday night with a season-ending road loss to the Phoenix Blue Suns 101-94.
—In winning 10 straight national tournament games, the Riverdogs made their first Final 4 appearance, losing to eventual champion Lake Merritt Arrows.
—The spectacular Dog Kennel was the site of that national championship final game. The entire nation was able to see the beautiful renovated fieldhouse with its state-of-the-art scoreboard and fan-friendly confines. A boisterous sellout crowd of 18181 watched the Arrows defeat the Chicago Bulls in a 108-103 thriller.
—The selection of 6-11 C Edward "E-Will" Williams as the starting center for the Greta 8 in the All-Star game.
—The selection of 6-10 C Izidor Radoš to the Slovenia U-21 national team.
—Final statistics released by the Riverdogs showed that SF Michaelangelo "The Painter" Fuso led the team with a 16.2 ppg average. The guard combo of Zika "Z" Ilicevic and Etienne "ET' Loubier chipped in with 12+ ppg. Five other Riverdogs averaged between 8.4 and 9.5 ppg for the balanced Riverdogs. Rebounding leaders were Williams 13.4 rpg, Freddy "The Hammer" Davila 12.4 and Victor "Lucas" Lucena at 10.7. Lucena led the club at the FT line with a 91% mark, while "Mad Max" Sammiller led the team with a 46.4% FG mark.
—Final league statistics released this week showed that Dog River led the league in rebounds, were #2 in points allowed, #3 in blocks, #5 in assists and 5th in FTs.
—In personnel changes, the 20 y.o. Sammiller was obtained at mid-season from the Chumunga Watermelons, the Riverdogs' sister Australian team. The Dogs' sole Hall of Fame member Ray Chad was named head scout for the club in early December. Pappy pointed out his excitement with this appointment and said the the draft looked the most promising since the season 4 draft that included Davila and single game scoring record holder Ernie Blanton.
—Pappy closed by thanking the Riverdog faithful for their great support this season.

Congratulations to Pappy and his Dogs. Hope season 15 is even better. The Dogs are almost in the top ten nationally ... that is pretty amazing.
