Regular Season Wrap-Up

• After a dismal 3-7 start, the Dog River Riverdogs came on strong with an 11-1 finish, the only blemish being a close 69-61 road loss to the Hobo's (after a 61-61 tie with two minutes to play)

• The third-place finish by the Dogs marks their ninth consecutive playoff berth.

• Last night's near sellout of 17409 set a Dog Kennel record.

• Final league statistics released by BB-Stats showed the Riverdogs ranked 1st in rebounds and blocks, 3rd in assists and third in points allowed. PG Ernie Blanton led the league in assists while Freddy "The Hammer" Davila was second in blocks.

• The Riverdogs had three nationally ranked players: Etias "Big E" Scalise ranked 13th, Victor "Luke" Lucena was number 70 and Davila finished with the 111th highest rating. League ratings for these three were Scalise (1), Lucena (7) and Davila (9)

• Scalise and Davila led the Dogs in FG% at 50.7 while Lucena topped the FT shooters at 89%. Scalise also led the Riverdogs in rebounding at 14.0 rpg, while other rebounding averages were Lucena at 11.9, Davila 11.4 and Virgil "Zorro" Csordas at 7.4.

• As usual, the Riverdogs had no league scoring leaders, but showed their balance with these averages: Blanton 15.3 ppg, Scalise 13.9, Davila 12.4, Csordas 12.0, sixth-man Zika "Z" Ilicevic 10.7, Etienne "ET" Loubier 10.0, and Lucena 9.4.

• This season marked the official retirement of former league MVP Jose "The Old Man" Nickerson who will become a bench coach for the Riverdogs next season and will work primarily with the big men.

• Owner Pappy O'Daniel wanted to expressly thank the following BB managers for their kind help and support through this and past seasons: abel (Meridian Hill McMornings), High Tide (Basket Brawlers), Astral Weeks (astral weeks), Coach Dawg (Da Dawgs) and last, but not least, HeadPaperPusher (Paper Pushers). Their assistance is most appreciated. Pappy wants to wish all these teams "Good Luck" in their playoffs.

Good stuff, Pappy. Hopefully that success over the past 12 weeks continues into the playoffs.
