Mid-February Update

After a successful 2-game road trip, the Riverdogs return to the friendly confines of the Dog Kennel for a league game Tuesday against the newly formed California Club. Then it's on the road again Thursday for a CUP contest with the Flaxton Athletic Club. Led by the inspired play of veteran PF Jose Nickerson (31.2 ppg, 76.2 FG %) and C Ray Chad (13.8 ppg), the "Dogs share the lead in the Great 8 Conference with a 4-1 mark. With eight other players averaging over 17 minutes and 7-plus points a game, the Riverdogs hope to continue their well-balanced attack. Newly acquired Gianvito Cucija made his debut Saturday night after a 3-week injury layoff—and contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds. Rookies Danny Justice, Tyrell "Fidel" Castro and Michael Frame (acquired from the Leeds,England Hamsters) have each started several games and add a lot, especially on defense. On a sad note, crowd favorite Eugenio Candido was traded yesterday for cash to a Division II Aussie team. Owner Pappy Odaniel wanted to once again thank Dog River fans for their great loyalty and enthusiasm. More seating—about 250 seats—is being added to the Dog Kennel and should be ready for a big home game on the 26th with the Lindsey Rampage. Pappy also noted that he is negotiating with several FM stations to air away games.
